The Top Ten Books On My Summer 2014 TBR list

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Today’s topic is Top Ten Books On My Summer TBR List. As I looked back on my spring TBR list, I actually read five of the books! Considering my usual track record with these TTT TBR posts, that isn’t too bad! Going on vacation really helped hone in my focus on my TBR list since I only brought particular books with me, didn’t take my Nook, and managed to only buy one book while on vacation. Whether or not my track record will continue into summer, well, we’ll see. This list is no particular order except the first three are probably what I will read first. As usual though, there will be distractions and moods will sway me elsewhere. Also, I decided not to include The Partials or The Screwtape Letters as carry-over, though they are also still very much on my TBR.

1. Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

GR-tigerlilyThis absolutely will be my next read since I have to have it read by early July for book club. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it so I’m looking forward to it!

2. Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

GR-siegeandstorm3. Rise and Ruin by Leigh Bardugo

GR-ruin&risingI bought Shadow and Bone on a whim this spring, read it, and loved it! Now I’m looking forward to reading the next two installments back to back!

4. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

GR-faultinourstarsI have this on hold at the library, and it’s a long list, so I honestly have no idea when I’ll read this. I’m sure it will become available at an extremely inconvenient time, as it did once before so I ended up not checking it out then. And clearly I’m the last YA book blogger to read this.

5. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

GR-wewereliarsTalk of this novel is seriously rousing my curiosity, so after seeing that I could get it through my library’s e-book system, I placed a hold it on it as well.

6. Write Your Novel from The Middle by James Scott Bell

GR-writeyournovelI’m about to get serious about some writing revisions, and Bell’s book Plot and Structure really helped me before, so I bought this back a while book in anticipation of gleaning from his wisdom yet again.

7. The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet by Bernie Su and Kate Rorick

GR-lizziebennetLizzie Bennet in book form! Yay! I wouldn’t be surprised if I ended up putting this off, but I do want to read it now!

8. SOMETHING by Kasie West

kasiewestbooksThis is vague, ha. I’ve been wanting to read Split Second since it came out, but it keeps not being on sale ever, so if that keeps up, I might end up reading The Distance Between Us or On the Fence sooner, since the former I can get from the library and either for cheap on paperback.

9. Tandem by Anna Jarzab

GR-tandem10. Relativity by Cristin Bishara

GR-relativityBecause I want to read more parallel universe stories and Kelley enjoyed both of these.

Bonus!

The Wisdom of the Enneagram: The Complete Guide to Psychological and Spiritual Growth for the Nine Personality Types by Don Richard Riso is something I will be looking through once it arrives on my doorstep (I ordered it along with the Grisha books). I learned about it from Shauna Niequist on the Revelant podcast and it sounds like a really interesting way to learn more about your personality and how you relate with others. I’ll keep you guys updated for sure, even if I don’t read the book from cover to cover right away.

What’s on your summer TBR list?

  1. I love your love of parallel life books. I’m currently reading one out in July that takes place in my state so that is made of win. All of Kasie West books are worth the money, but you really can’t go wrong with any of them. And I loved We Were Liars.

    Great list.

    • Are you reading Dissonance? I’ve read one positive review of it so far, so I imagine I’ll pick that one up eventually. Parallel worlds and time travel are two things that can be done either really right or really wrong, so when I hear good things about a story featuring either one, I take note!

  2. Ruin and Rising is on my list as well! I can’t wait to see how they end the trilogy! Hope you enjoy Siege and Storm! It’s really good.
    Here’s my TT

    • Yeah, I really have no idea if the book is about revisions, but I don’t think it will hurt! I do know it’s about the message or heart of your story.

    • Ha! I’ve read just snippets of John Green and it’s not really my thing, but I do want to read this one since it’s made a splash in the YA world.

  3. Ruin and Rising definitely.

Also, you should totally read The Distance Between Us! I hesitated for so long but then when i finally read it, it was so cute and so fantastic. I’d definitely recommend picking that 🙂

    • The contemporary romances always make me hesitate too, but Kasie West seems to stand out. I definitely plan to check it out sometime, even if I don’t get to it this summer.

  4. I hope to read the Grisha series this summer as well! I’m reading Split Second right now and am enjoying it so far!

Write your novel from the middle might be really helpful. I might have to check that out!

  5. I highly approve of the Grisha books 😉 And don’t worry about the TFiOS; read it on your own time, and prepare for tears. I really enjoyed We Were Liars too. I forgot how beautiful Tandem’s cover was… and I didn’t know it was a parallel world story. I’m officially interested 😀

  6. You know my feelings on “The Fault In Our Stars.” Hopefully it comes available at the right time this time. That always happens to me… I put something on hold and when it is available I have no time to read it.
“We Were Liars” and “Lizzie Bennet” look good. I hope to read them too!

  7. You aren’t the last YA blogger to have not read TFIOS yet…I haven’t either! It’s on my list too, and I actually have it sitting on my shelves. Just need to actually go ahead and read it, haha XD

  8. I really enjoyed We Were Liars and TFiOS (although I read it when it first came out and didn’t, like, LOVE it–like need to get a tattoo love it). The Distance Between Us is pretty cute, and so is On the Fence which I’m reading now. I also really want to read Tandem. I was SO excited for that book, but then never got around to it. Great list!

  9. Your list is perfect. PURE PERFECTION. Kasie West is amazing, especially for summer reads. Leigh Bardugo, TFiOS, everything. I’m excited FOR YOU for this summer reading 😉

  10. Yeees, yeeeeees, yeeeeeeeeeeees! MUAHAHAHA!! *lightning and thunder* Your summer is going to be AMAZING in the reading department. ;D

  11. I haven’t read The Fault in Our Stars, either. To be honest, I probably never will. I’m not a huge fan of YA contemporary. And books about sick kids… I’m even less of a fan.

    • Honestly, the biggest reason I plan to read it is because I want to be a YA author, and I kind of feel like I need to read most of the big time YA books. I certainly don’t feel like everyone should feel the same obligation though!
