My Top 5 Episodes of Voyager Season Seven

As my husband and I are going through our second full watch of Star Trek as a couple, I thought it would be fun to report on the highlights along the way. So I decided to copy the same format as Charlene. See her top episodes of Voyager season seven. (Spoiler alert: I think this is the first time we’ve had zero episodes in common for our lists! It goes to show though that season seven was pretty solid.)

And the Voyager rewatch is a wrap! My husband said something interesting about Voyager, that it’s the most even-keeled of the series. The others have extreme highs and extreme lows, so Voyager doesn’t stand out as much to me. But I do like the characters and their arcs, and that’s what matters most to me at the end of the day.

First, honorable mention goes to Repentance and Lineage. The latter struck me in a new way to me this time and made me appreciate it more than I had before. Now for the Top 5…

5. Critical Care

This is a good, standard Star Trek episode that acts as a commentary for human ethics, more specifically where health care is concerned.

4. Imperfection

Icheb takes a risk in order to save Seven, and I just love the portrayal of their relationship in this episode. Icheb has become a productive member of the crew and a mature young man, and it’s heartwarming see how he cares for his surrogate mother.

3. Body and Soul

This one is just plain funny. The doctor is forced to inhabit Seven’s body in order to hide from a group of aliens looking to destroy holographic beings. Let’s just say Jeri Ryan did amazing work on this episode playing The Doctor in Seven’s body.

2. Shattered

Voyager is caught in a temporal rift, and Chakotay must find a way to get the crew of Voyager set in various time periods to help him solve the problem.

1. Human Error

Seven is finally exploring her humanity more as she starts using a holodeck program to help her gain new social skills. Fantasy has a way of interfering with her real life, a theme I almost always enjoy exploring.

My Top 5 Episodes of Voyager Season Six

As my husband and I are going through our second full watch of Star Trek as a couple, I thought it would be fun to report on the highlights along the way. So I decided to copy the same format as Charlene. See her favorite episodes of Voyager season six.

5. Fair Haven

This episode is a little silly, but it’s fun to see the Voyager crew in a new environment. The main plot follows Janeway’s romance with a holodeck character whose program she alters to better fit her needs (and to delete his wife!), which is slightly alarming for Janeway, but not outside of the realm of plausibility for her either.

4. Good Shepherd

After Seven identifies the ship’s resident misfits, Janeway takes them in for an away mission, to prove to them that they add value to the crew. What is supposed to be a simple away mission turns into a potentially life-threatening situation, and they all have to rely on each other more than ever anticipated. I really kind of liked the hypochondriac character on this episode; I would have liked to have seen more of him!

3. The Haunting of Deck Twelve

Episodes that take place entirely on the ship hardly ever catch my interest, but I love the way this episode is framed. Neelix proves to be quite the storyteller as he deflects the Borg kids’ questions about what is happening on Voyager by telling them a scary story, which may in fact be the truth of what is happening.

2. Blink of an Eye

The concept behind this one is so fascinating: Voyager is trapped in a planet’s atmosphere for what feels like days for them, but for the people below, it’s centuries. If Voyager doesn’t act quickly enough, the people on the planet will soon have technology that outpaces their own.

1. Unimatrix Zero

I barely remembered this season finale (and part two season 7 opener) from my first watch of Voyager, but it was a stand-out episode for me this time. Though I do feel like Seven relaxes some after this episode, I would have liked to have seen her relax even more. She really seemed to thrive in the world she and some other Borg had created for themselves.

My Top 5 Episodes of Voyager Season Four

As my husband and I are going through our second full watch of Star Trek as a couple, I thought it would be fun to report on the highlights along the way. So I decided to copy the same format as Charlene. See her favorite episodes of Voyager Season Four

Season four, when Kes has departed and Seven comes on board. This is also the season of what I have long proclaimed to be the best episodes of Voyager, but stay tuned to see how my feelings have changed a little. Also, while the show is probably stronger this season than in the previous, thanks to DS9 really getting good I started losing interest and found less episodes from this season of Voyager standing out in my mind.

I will give an honorable mention to the episode “One,” for some nice Seven development. On with the top 5…

5. Nemesis

I’m not super crazy about everything in this episode, mostly how the dialect of the people carries over in a different way than it normally would with the universal translator, BUT the ending of the episode is one of those whoa moments, especially since I had completely forgotten the ending of this one. While many of the episodes from season four blur together in my mind, this one does stand out.

4. Waking Moments

I’m kind of a sucker for episodes involving dreams, and in this episode an alien species poses a great threat to Voyager through their nightmares.

3. Living Witness

This is definitely a very thought-provoking episode that makes you think of how we view history with our preconceived biases.

2. Year of Hell Parts One and Two

These used to be among my favorite episodes of all of Voyager, but aren’t even my favorite of the season this go-around. I think most of the tension was gone for me during this rewatch, and I didn’t remember the villain being the way he was, and I found him underwhelming this go-around. I think I was a little more engaged in part one, but by part two I was kind of over it. Of course, it probably didn’t help that there were several days between my viewing of part one and part two. Also, I think one of my favorite things about this episode this time was the friendship between Tuvok and Seven, which sadly we don’t get to see portrayed in quite the same light again.

1. The Killing Game Parts One and Two

Like how I’m a sucker for dream episodes, I’m also a sucker for anything where we see our crew (in any Trek series) in another time period. In this two-parter, most of the crew is forced into a WWII themed holosuite program by an alien species who thrives on hunting their enemies.

My Top 5 Episodes of DS9 Season Five & Voyager Season Three

As my husband and I are going through our second full watch of Star Trek as a couple, I thought it would be fun to report on the highlights along the way. So I decided to copy the same format as Charlene. See her favorite episodes of Deep Space Nine Season 5 and Voyager Season 3

Deep Space Nine, Season Five

5. In The Cards

ds9-5-inthecards

This is a fun episode before everything goes to heck, where Nog and Jake do favors for members of the station’s crew in exchange for something that will help them obtain a rare baseball card for Captain Sisko.

3-4. In Purgatory’s Shadow and By Inferno’s Light

ds9-5-purgatoryshadow

In this epically named two-parter, we find out Bashir has been swapped for a Changeling, who Garak’s father is, and just how tough of a warrior Worf is.

2. Dr. Bashir, I Presume?

ds9-5-drbashiripresume

I was a big Bashir fan from the moment I first saw him in TNG, and it makes me sad that Alexander Siddig doesn’t like this episode and the direction it took his character. While I enjoyed the overly enthusiastic, young doctor, I feel this episode really makes his character richer and more complex.

1. Trials and Tribble-ations

ds9-5-trialsandtribbleations

There’s just no contest. Everything about this homage is pure perfection. I could fangirl over it all day.

Voyager Season Three

5. Worst Case Scenario

voy3-worstcasescenario

This is a fun one where we get to see how the Voyager crew would have responded to a Maquis coup on board the ship.

3-4. Future’s End, Parts One and Two

voy3-futuresend

I mean, what’s not to love about Voyager traveling back in time to 1996 and Tuvok’s do-rag?

2. Blood Fever

voy3-bloodfever

This one definitely has awkward moments but the relationship development that takes place is everything.

1. Before and After

voy3-beforeandafter

Something about this episode just sticks with me. It’s an interesting look at alternate timelines and seeing Kes’ life play out completely differently.

Star Trek Voyager Season Two: My Top 5 Fave Episodes

As my husband and I are going through our second full watch of Star Trek as a couple, I thought it would be fun to report on the highlights along the way. So I decided to copy the same format as Charlene at Bookish Whimsy, who is going through her first-ever run of Star Trek and sharing her favorite episodes for each season. To compare, see her favorite episodes of Voyager season two.

So this is the season that is infamous for Threshold, which was not as painful the second time but is still pretty bad. And then something I never would have imagined but learned from podcast listening is that apparently Tuvix is a fan favorite and there are people who wished the character stayed on the show. Not gonna lie, he makes me uncomfortable as does the entire episode. So needless to say neither of those made my list. On to those that did…

5. Meld

voy2-meld

This episode is kind of hard to watch because (1) psychopath alert and (2) Tuvok mind-melding with said psychopath (terrible idea) and becoming one himself. But it stuck with me and it’s interesting.

4. Persistence of Vision

voy2-persistanceofvision

This one was interesting, with hallucinations popping up all over the ship and the crew has to determine how and why.

3. Resolutions

voy2-resolutions

What I like about this episode is you get to see a new side of Janeway and Chakotay, and I really like their more down-to-earth natures! But darn Kathryn just wouldn’t jump on the Chakotay ship! I mean, the man is building her stuff right and left, being so sweet and thoughtful, and that smile! I’m just saying, you could be stuck on a planet with worse company. Like almost everyone else, this episode kind of makes me ship them a little! No shame.

2. Innocence

voy2-innocence

While the alien people in this episode drive me crazy for not just being straightforward, I absolutely LOVE seeing another side of Tuvok as he deals with the children. “What are your children like, Tuvok?” “Well behaved.” LOL.

1. Deadlock

voy2-deadlock

I decided to list this one as my top episode of the season because I think it held my interest the most, even though I remembered the outcome from my previous watch. I have to say though, poor Ensign Wildman! This episode also feels a little bit like a prelude to Year of Hell, AKA the best thing Voyager ever did.
