Highs & Lows (A Post About Life)

This past Friday, I attended a concert that featured my two favorite bands, Swicthfoot and Needtobreathe. I cannot begin to explain the depth of my excitement when I found out that they were (1) touring together, (2) coming to Nashville, but if you imagine it was your two favorite artists coming to your town then I’m sure you can understand.

Some highlights of the show included all the guys of Switchfoot gathering around one mic to test the acoustics of the new venue the show was in to sing “Hello Hurricane,” and the opening acts + Switchfoot + Needtobreathe all on stage near the end singing Needtobreathe’s “Brother” together. Not to mention how inspired I always feel when I see Switchfoot (which has been more times than I remember), and how engulfed I felt in the moment when Needtobreathe performed “Multiplied.” I enjoyed both of the opening acts as well, Colony House and Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, but especially the former. I look forward to more of them in the future.

That low came on Sunday.

I was turning left onto a busy street that I have turned left onto a hundred times before. I thought it was all clear. It wasn’t.

I’ve been in accidents before, but not like this, where my airbags deployed, paramedics came, and my car got towed away.

My car that I love and haven’t had all that long.

But I am OK. I did get a little bruised and banged up, thanks to the airbags (I’ll just assume it would have been worse without them though and be glad my car kept me safe), but I didn’t need to go to the hospital or anything, and the other driver was fine too.

There were some witnesses to the accident that were so kind to me. One of them even went and got me one of those big bottles of SmartWater, which I will never forget and I am so thankful for, because it was hot and I drank most of it standing out there! I’m also thankful I got off with a warning citation instead of a ticket.

I had some family friends who saw the accident and came back to get my groceries home for me, while I waited for my mom and husband. That evening some friends came over with pizza and to just hang out for a while. It was a nice way to end an otherwise not great day.

It’s just amazing what all can happen in such a short period of time, from highs to lows.

When have you experienced a high and then a low in a short period of time?

  1. *hugs again* I’m so sorry to hear about your accident, but thank God you weren’t hurt! It sounds like it could have been worse, so I’m glad nothing crazy happened. And that’s really sweet that your friends and family came over to hang out after; I’m sure it helped a lot 🙂

  2. Oh I’m so sorry you got into an accident Amy! I’m glad that nobody was hurt, but that is such a horrible low still to have experienced that and lose your car. It’s nice to know that there are kind people out there who still help strangers too. Even with the awfulness of the accident, I’m sure in a year or so, you’ll only remember the awesomeness of the concert!

    • Thanks, Charlene. I agree, it was nice to have kindness from strangers and be reminded that there are still plenty of good people in this world.

  3. Oh man, getting in a car accident is never fun — I’m so glad that you’re okay!! That’s definitely a downer, especially after such an inspiring concert the night before. What’s happening with your car? Is it being repaired or is it totaled? It’s nice that there were kind folks at the scene, and that your friends/family were there to soften the whole blow that day. Hope things get better from here. *hugs*

    • So my insurance hasn’t even bothered to tell me whether or not it’s been totaled yet… which is not cool. I called both Thursday and Friday but to no avail. Hoping to get answers soon. I looked at some cars and did a little test driving yesterday just in case, because I’m pretty sure it will be totaled, but I didn’t want to buy anything without knowing for sure that a check was coming!

  4. I’m so glad you’re ok! I’ve been in my share of car accidents, and they are always nerve-rattling. It is always nice when you can be reminded that most strangers are awesome people. On the positive side, It’s so cool that two of your favorite bands toured together! I’m sure that was amazing.

    • It really is great to know that strangers can be awesome people! And yes, it was awesome to see them together! We only wished that they both could have played longer sets!

  5. I’m so sorry to hear about your accident!! And that I’m commenting like weeks later. But I’ve very glad to hear that you’re ok and no one was hurt.

I’m also glad you got to go to such an awesome concert. When Multiplied by Needtobreathe debuted on my local radio station I loved it immediately and emailed them to know who sang it. One guy at the station and I traded like 4 or 5 emails to narrow it down but it’s one of my favorites 🙂 I can’t imagine how awesome it would be to hear live.

    • Thanks, Annie! And yeah, the accident was three weeks ago today and I went to that same grocery store for the first time by myself since the accident, and I really didn’t even want to look at the spot where I turned out of the parking lot and it all happened. Thankfully there’s a different way to get out (safer too since there’s a light there!).

It is such a great song! You ought to check out the album it’s from if you haven’t already! 🙂
