Top 5 Books I’ve Recently Added To My “Maybe” TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is Top 10 Books I’ve Recently Added To My TBR.

I’ve gotten very picky about my actual TBR list on Goodreads, sticking most reads that sound interesting on a “maybe” shelf, because I know I won’t get around to reading 75% of them. Some stay on the maybe shelf until I read them. But most will stay on the maybe shelf indefinitely. So today I thought I would share a few of these recently added to the maybe shelf that do have some stronger interest from me, and your thoughts on them could push me one way or the other! The list is no particular order.

1. The Geek’s Guide to Unrequited Love

This doesn’t come out until this summer so it will probably be a while before I see reviews. But geeky romance! I mean, it sounds awesome!

2. Red Rising

Sometimes a book has to be out for two years and I have to hear people outside the YA community talking about it to be like huh, maybe I should check this out… If I do read it, I’ll probably wait until the last book is out and binge.

3. These Vicious Masks

Jane Austen meets X-Men?! Yeah, so only bad reviews will keep me away from this, I’m pretty sure.

4. Passenger

Current NYT best-seller, lots of hype, but mixed reviews, plus the time-travel romance is always something I want to love but doesn’t always work for me. So… we’ll see?

5. My Lady Jane

Comedic historical fiction + Cynthia Hand as one of the authors = I’m intrigued. This one also has a summer release date.

Have you read any of these? Are any of them on your TBR?

  1. I’ve always been intrigued by the story of Lady Jane Grey (and her nine days as Queen) so I’m interested to see what those three authors do with it!

  2. I can definitely recommend RED RISING, it felt like a mix of THE HUNGER GAMES and GAME OF THRONES and was really exciting! I can’t wait to get my hands on the final book of this trilogy!

  3. I just found out about My Lady Jane today. It sounds so weird that I think it might be awesome! And I’m currently reading Passenger. I’m liking it so far, but I’m only 50 pages in.

    • It’s funny how sometimes something sounds so weird that it’s appealing! Glad to hear you’re enjoying Passenger! I have heard more positive than negative, I’ve just had some bad luck with hyped books lately so I’m on my guard!

  4. Yes, yes, yes on “Red Rising”! It and the sequel, “Golden Son,” were my favorite reads last year and I’m anxiously awaiting the trilogy-ender. I picked up “Red Rising” because I saw it on several best-of lists at the end of 2014, even though it was a little out of my comfort zone. But it was sooooo good — AND the author’s pretty easy on the eyes. 😉

I really like the idea of a “maybe” shelf on Goodreads. My to-read list is a huge, disorganized mess and full of books I’ll probably never read — which makes the books I DO really want to read sort of get lost in the pack. Although the thought of organizing those 550+ books is sorta daunting…

  5. i’m excited for Passenger! I hope that the time travel romance works aspect is as good as it is in Outlander. 😀 And My Lady Jane has now been added to my TBR!

    • Oh, that’s unfortunate! I appreciate good world building but characters are #1 priority for me. I wonder if it gets any better in the second book? I assume you didn’t continue?

  6. Unrequited love + geeky shenanigans? That sounds right up my alley, haha! XD
I’m pretty excited for These Vicious Masks too, I mean look at that cover! <3 & when it's pitched as a mash up of Austen & X-men, there's no stopping me. 🙂
