Top Ten Tuesday topic is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Today’s topic is Top Ten Books I Can’t Believe I Haven’t/Want To Read From X Genre. I don’t read a lot of Contemporary YA, but occasionally there’s one I hear about that I think I might enjoy… but it can take me a while to actually get around to them. Here’s 10 that I’m thinking I’ll check out one day, in no particular order…
1. Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter
I’ve been thinking of reading these for a while, but it’s always daunting to start series! But one day, I will, because they just sound fun!
2. Magnolia by Kristi Cook
Set in the South, Star Trek references, and the whole we-hate-each-other-oh-wait-never-mind trope? Yep, definitely interested.
3. Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens
I feel like a broken record because I keep mentioning that Courtney is a local author who I have seen multiple times at local events and I feel I should read her book especially since blogger Kayla talks about the boy in the book being like a contemporary Peeta but I have to admit I am terrified of the whole rape topic but ONE DAY I WILL READ THIS.
4. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Yes, I still haven’t read this. Stop giving me that look.
5. Killer Instinct by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Hey contemporary lovers, be proud! I read and enjoyed The Naturals, so I would like to read its sequel!
6. The Law of Loving Others by Kate Axelrod
I will have to read more reviews on this before I know if I actually want to read it, but anything dealing with schizophrenia initially piques my interest. Ever since writing a paper on it my senior year of high school it has fascinated me.
7. Don’t Touch by Rachel M. Wilson
Summer raved about this one and mentioned there’s a nice guy (always a win for me), PLUS it focuses on OCD, which is actually featured in my WIP and I really need to read a little more about it.
8. If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch
This one is highly regarded, plus it’s set in Tennessee.
The only Kasie West books I’ve read so far are Pivot Point and Split Second, which are contemporary with a paranormal/sci-fi sort of twist, and I think I need to read some of her straight-up contemporary I hear so much good about!
10. She Is Not Invisible by Marcus Sedgwick
This one just sounds very intriguing!
Which of these contemporary books do you love or want to read?
I’d tell you but then I’d have to kill you, is really good, very clever. 🙂
The whole series sounds really cute! Glad to know it’s clever too!
It had really in depth details that made me belive it could be real 🙂 Hope you enjoy it if you read it.
The Distance Between Us is so, so good 🙂 I don’t read a lot of contemporary YA either, but Kasie West is easily my favorite!
She seems to be a favorite among many, and I did enjoy Pivot Point and Split Second!
The Gallagher Girls series is a lot of fun. And I read THE NATURALS last year. Didn’t know there was a sequel. I’ll be looking for it.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s a trilogy, which I guess is a pretty uncommon among contemporaries!
Ooh! The Gallaghar Girls series is pretty great! You haven’t read TFIOS?! *shakes head solemnly* *shrugs* I didn’t give it 5 stars, anyway. I NEED to read some Kasie West!! NEED!! Everybody loves her and I have no idea why!! TELL ME WHY!! Magnolia seems quite interesting!
Great post!

My TTT: Me LOVE Fantasy/Sci-Fi! So Why Haven’t I Read These Yet? Disgravceful! (TTT)
I know, everyone does seem to love Kasie West! I did really like the not-really-contemporary books of hers that I read!
Oh my word. Magnolia was just perfection <3 I gave it four stars at first, but it’s really more like five. I was swooning from page one!
Was about to flail about Faking Normal then saw your paragraph – my work here is done 😉 And don’t worry – the rape topic is handled VERY sensitively!
I read Don’t Touch last week, and it really was amazing. I love the way OCD was presented! And yes, the love interest is 100% swoon-worthy 😉
Oh that’s really good to know about the rape topic being handled sensitively and well. Just the thought of it makes me nervous! And swooning from page one?! Wow, if a book can make me swoon page 1 that is an accomplishment indeed!
Faking Normal was the only one I have read and I think I gave it a three? It was just okay for me, and I would not compare the other guy to Peeta. Nope. Not even close.
Oh no… so you didn’t think he was kind and sweet?
I haven’t read Kasie West’s Pivot Point series but she is QUEEN of contemporary. I liked On the Fence waaaayyyyy more than The Distance Between Us but even so, I read it in like a day and squealed about it for even longer. I definitely recommend picking it up! They’re such fun and easy reads!
Noted, just in case I don’t love The Distance Between Us as much as others do. I will admit that the premise of On The Fence does appeal to me more, but I think I want to read Distance first and then On The Fence, especially since I think I heard there was a cameo in the latter that was from the former?
Well, ”She is not Invincible” is now on my mental want-to-read list because of that cover. Great List! Check mine: https://bookishunicorn.wordpress.com/2015/02/03/top-ten-tuesday-2/
Hope the cover lives up to your hopes for it!
I need to read a couple of these books too LOL!! Here is my Top Ten Tuesday if you wanna check it out 🙂 http://bookbabble.weebly.com/blog/top-ten-tuesday1
It’s ok, I haven’t read any of these either except for TFIOS. This just shows how much I like contemporary huh, hahah. I have Don’t Touch on my list though, I heard that it’s really good so far 🙂
You and me both apparently, ha ha.
The Fault in Our Stars is awesome!! Here’s my TTT list for the week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2015/02/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-books-i-cant.html
That seems to be the consensus!
I haven’t read The fault in our stars but I don’t plan to. I watched the movie and… just too much pain 🙁
My TTT: http://frannieinthepages.blogspot.it/2015/02/top-ten-tuesday-ten-books-i-cant.html
I thought about watching the movie, but my husband had made it clear he had no intention of seeing it and I very rarely watch movies alone (even at home) so yeah, I probably won’t, or at least not anytime soon. I still feel I ought to read the book though, just so I can say I have.
I just read Killer Instinct and I really liked it – I am excited to continue with the series!

I’m wary of the continuation of the love triangle, since I’m not wild about either guy, but otherwise looking forward to it!
Ooooh Ally Carter and Kasie West. The way to my heart. You know how I feel about the Gallagher Girl series, but I HIGHLY recommend Kasie West’s other books. I liked them even better than Pivot Point and Split Second! (I’ve actually been sitting at my desk at work for the last few hours wishing I were at home rereading On The Fence.)
Don’t Touch – never heard of it, sounds interesting! She is Not Invisible is excellent, and the Gallagher Girls books are good fun 🙂
