Monthly Recap: April

MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU!

Books I Read

A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn

Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch

Anne’s House of Dreams by L.M. Montgomery

Glamour in Glass by Mary Robinette Kowal

Only one of these is YA! I’m trying to broaden my horizons a bit. I enjoyed all these reads but Anne’s House of Dreams was my favorite (which was such a relief after Anne of Windy Poplars was a small let-down).

Movie of the Month

Beauty and the Beast! It was lovely! As much as I loved Emma Watson and the guy who played the Beast though, I kind of think Luke Evans as Gaston stole the show! He was spot-on.

My husband and I are also working our way through a Star Wars movies rewatch; only episodes VI and VII to go now!

#Bookstagram Images of the Month

Camp NaNoWriMo

I needed some serious time away from the project I have spent years on, so this month I dabbled on a new story idea that I am pretty sure now is going to be my next WIP, a contemporary about two teens competing for first chair sax. I completed my goal of 10,000 words, though they weren’t all exactly in order. Oops. Anyhow, I’m really loving it and hope I get to share it one day!

Looking Forward to in May

My husband and I will be celebrating 8 years of marriage and 13 years together on the 16th! Sometimes it seems so crazy it’s been that long, but sometimes it feels like it’s been longer (in a good way)! Sadly, we don’t get to go on a vacation this month around our anniversary like we usually do because I got sick so much this winter and used up my PTO, sigh… But I trust it’ll be a good month regardless. We have a local jazz festival I am looking forward to plus a few things lined up to do with friends.

Potential May TBR

The Secret of a Heart Note by Stacey Lee

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (reread) by J.K. Rowling

These Vicious Masks by Tarun Shanker and Kelly Zekas

Paper Wishes by Lois Sephban

I also already finished one book after reading half of it on April 30 and finishing it the first day of May, but I’ll mention that in my recap next month. πŸ™‚

How was your April? What are you looking forward to in May?Β

  1. I’m listening to Love & Gelato on audio right now and enjoying it! I really need to continue on with the Anne of Green Gables books. I hope you have a wonderful May!

    • Anne of the Island is my favorite of the five Anne books I’ve read, so definitely read at least that far!

  2. I loved Anne’s House of Dreams, it was so fun to watch her settle into married life and her new home. Although I know there was bit that broke my heart. Did you ever read any of Montgomery’s other series – the Emily books? I think you’d like them too, as Emily is a writer.

And Beauty and the Beast was everything I wanted it to be. I already can’t wait to see it again!

    • Oh I know, “that part” made me so sad too! And I haven’t read the Emily books, but I’ll have to check them out sometime!

  3. I liked Love and Gelato and have heard the Raybourn books are good. And yay for a Star Wars rewatch… sounds fun! Hope May is a great reading month. πŸ™‚

  4. I really need to see Beauty and the Beast sometime. For some reason all the hype just sort of went over my head and I didn’t see it. I feel like everyone who has has mostly enjoyed it though so I probably missing out.

I love that I own at least one book from each of your Bookstagram pictures. Not that people can’t own books that I don’t, of course, but there’s something about stepping away from the book blogosphere and coming back in to all these new books you haven’t heard of that really throws me off and makes me feel out of the loop. Plus Wall-E! 😍😍😍 I own that little Funko Pop as well. Wall-e is my heart.

Ooh that contemporary idea is exciting! I don’t tend to read such books but I like the idea of competing for first chair because I was in band so it’s something I can relate to! I’m sure it could be a lot of fun, especially if their competition spills outside of band class.

Congrats on your eight years together with your husband! That’s very exciting and something to definitely be proud of. I hope you can enjoy it even without the PTO! πŸ–€

Not a whole lot to report on my end. April was good because Dave came over, but then it was a bit rough because I was completely out of my routine. I’m just now slowly getting back into things (hence the month-late blog comments), but hey, sometimes it’s good to give yourself time when not feeling it.

    • I was really looking forward to it since it was one of my favorites as a kid, though I was also a little nervous! And I totally understand what you’re saying about the books in my pictures. I often see Bookstagram pics full of books I don’t own or have never read and feel a little behind, but there’s no way I can read/own all of them! And yes, gotta love Wall-E! Technically he’s my husband’s, but I mean, what’s his is mine, right? So glad you like my contemporary idea! I think it’s one that appeal to people who don’t normally gravitate toward contemporary, since I can include myself in that category, though I have been reading more lately. And thank you! Our anniversary is actually today so this comment was perfect timing! πŸ™‚ And we last minute booked a night at a hotel in a nearby town for later in the week so I’m looking forward to that now! So glad you had a good visit with Dave… and before you know it you’ll be married – yay! πŸ˜€
