What I Read in July

Audiobook reads:

Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum

The Captive Maiden by Melanie Dickerson

Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert

The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis

Physical reads:

A Wind in the Door by Madeline L’Engle

My Plain Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows

A Hint of Hydra by Heidi Lang and Kat Bartkowski

My favorite of the month: I am pleased to say I ADORED A Hint of Hydra, the follow-up to A Dash of Dragon, which I also adored. I don’t read a lot of middle grade but I really highly recommend this! So excited for a Pinch of Phoenix to come out next year!

  1. I haven’t actually mentioned this on the Goodreads page yet, but I don’t think I’ll be able to participate in the book club this go around. I looked for My Plain Jane when it was published, but I don’t think it’s actually getting published over here? Or it won’t until later in the year? I could buy the hardback American version but since I still have no income I’m not really into spending extra money for a book I’m not super excited to read so meeeehhhhhh. I’m such a failure. (Though I did see Heartless while I was at the bookstore and thought “Oh, I should buy that because I think it’s the next book club read and I could just read ahead for that” and then realised that it was the other way around and I had already missed that one too.)

What did you think of Big Magic? It’s one of those books I’ve always been curious about but have never had the actual urge to pick up.

    • That surprises me that it’s not being sold in the UK! But that’s certainly not a failure on your part!

Big Magic had some good parts, also had some parts that were a little mystic/New Agey for me. But there was some solid advice and thoughts that I think are helpful if you’re in a creative rut. I’m glad I listened to it, especially since I probably never would have gotten around to picking up the actual book.
